L.R. Heartsong is “a healer who writes.” For more than twenty-five years, in a variety of modalities—integrative bodywork, soul-based coaching, shamanic healing, energy and plant medicine—as well as men’s groups, workshops, and sacred ceremonies, he has helped others discover their authentic path of heart, wild soul, and deepest transformation. He teaches an embodied, sensual connection with life, nature, and the Soul of the World.
A dynamic speaker and teacher, River is the author of the newly released To Kneel and Kiss the Earth: Inspiration from the Soul Artist Journal, as well as The Bones and Breath: A Man’s Guide to Eros, the Sacred Masculine, and the Wild Soul, a book hailed as “an instant classic.” A conscious man’s guide to a road less traveled, it has been praised by men and women alike as a lyrical, heart-centered guide for an evolving masculinity.
River’s interviews include the award-winning Conversations Radio with Michael Stone (arewelistening.net), who speaks with thought leaders and social visionaries in areas of environmental restoration, evolutionary cosmology, social justice, and spiritual fulfillment. He has also been a featured presenter in multiple, global online symposiums featuring change-making influencers (scientists, shamans, mystics, psychologists, healers, and more) offering their insight, guidance, and personal expertise, all stitching us to a deeper connection with self, healing, and the ‘more-than-human’ world.
Highly intuitive and empathic, River has long been something of a reluctant mystic; experiencing direct revelations from Source, he is in-tune with the living, dreaming Earth and its communication. Clairvoyant, clairaudient and clairsentient, he underwent an extreme healing crisis that led to a rigorous initiation and an in-depth apprenticeship with sacred plant medicines – including extended time in the Peruvian Amazon, working with Shipibo shamans and vegetalistas. He has now stepped fully into his visionary work as a ‘medicine man’ and spiritual guide, with a soul-based coaching practice and shamanic integration sessions, as well as ceremonies for healing wherein he works specifically with energies of plants, ancestors, music and sound.
Aside from his transpersonal work, River is also a Paris-trained cook (formerly a private chef for the rich and famous), a novice weaver who uses a Navajo loom and hand-dyed yarns from an heirloom sheep breed, and is learning the Celtic folk harp. West Coast native turned nomad, he has resided in France, England, and Spain, and though still looking for home, recently he relocated to Central Oregon.
For four and a half years, River penned The Soul Artist Journal, a weekly e-column/blog celebrating “a life for the senses.” Feeling called to write more in-depth about the healing journey, in January 2017 he closed the cover on the SAJ and launched TendingSacred: new writing that embraces a somatic connection with nature and mystery, transformation for body and soul, as well as exploring shamanic realms and the deep imagination. Readers will find some recipes, too, healing concoctions from a chef and Green Man turned kitchen witch.
Now that To Kneel and Kiss the Earth has rolled off the press, River returns to editing a soulful memoir about this reluctant mystic living in the English countryside with his longterm partner; a story that celebrates nature, healing, and good food, along with a bit of Old World magic.
