L.R. Heartsong is “a healer who writes.” For more than two decades he has deeply studied and practiced bodywork and the healing arts, both as a therapist and an instructor; he is also a holistic aromatherapist, an Ayurvedic educator, trained in somatic psychology, and a certified Watsu practitioner. In his nature-based soul work, he teaches an embodied, sensual connection with life, Earth, and the soul of the world.
A dynamic speaker and teacher, River is the author of The Bones and Breath: A Man’s Guide to Eros, the Sacred Masculine, and the Wild Soul (White Cloud Press, 2014), a book hailed as “an instant classic.” A conscious man’s guide to a road less traveled, it has been praised by men and women alike as a lyrical, heart-centered guide for an evolving masculinity.
River’s interviews include the award-winning Conversations Radio with Michael Stone (arewelistening.net), who speaks with thought leaders and social visionaries in areas of environmental restoration, evolutionary cosmology, social justice, and spiritual fulfillment. He was a featured presenter at the Heartbeat of Mother Earth Summit, February 2017, a global online symposium featuring 36 experts (scientists, shamans, mystics, psychologists, and more) offering their wisdom, research, and personal guidance, all stitching us to a deeper connection with self and Nature. In February 2018, he will be a key speaker in the Remembering the Truth of Who We Are summit, another global online event featuring interviews with 30 leading experts in personal transformation, reaching more than 150,000 people.
Highly intuitive and empathic, River has long been something of a reluctant mystic, in-tune with the living, dreaming Earth and its communication. Clairvoyant, clairaudient and clairsentient, in 2015 he underwent an extreme healing crisis that led to a rigorous shamanic initiation and an in-depth apprenticeship with sacred plant medicines. He has now stepped fully into his visionary work as a ‘medicine man’ and spiritual guide, leading private and group ceremonies for healing.
Beyond his transformational work, River is also a French-trained cook (formerly a private chef for the rich and famous), a backyard beekeeper, and a novice weaver who uses a Navajo loom and hand-dyed yarns from an heirloom sheep breed. West Coast native turned nomad, he has resided in France, England, and Spain, and though still looking for home, these days he lives in the California desert.
For four and a half years, River penned The Soul Artist Journal, a weekly e-column/blog celebrating “a life for the senses.” Feeling called to write more in-depth about the healing journey, in January 2017 he closed the cover on the journal and launched TendingSacred: new writing that embraces a somatic connection with nature and mystery, transformation for body and soul, as well as exploring shamanic realms and the deep imagination. Likely there will be some recipes, too, healing concoctions from a chef and Green Man turned kitchen witch.
Currently he is circulating his next book to agents/publishers, a soulful memoir about living in the English countryside with his longterm partner; a story that celebrates nature, healing, and good food, along with a bit of Old World magic.
